Globe boosts Boracay network amid tourism surge

Telecommunications giant Globe Telecom has significantly ramped up its network infrastructure in Boracay, aiming to meet soaring demand for reliable mobile connectivity as the island braces for a record-breaking tourism year.

With over 30 outdoor 5G sites now active and a Q1 2025 Consistency Score of 92.63—the highest on the island—Globe is reinforcing its position as a key digital enabler for both leisure and business travelers. The network expansion includes improvements to more than 40 network sites across Boracay and an additional 50 sites in nearby Aklan, providing stronger and faster data service to a rapidly growing user base.

The upgrade comes as tourist arrivals surged to nearly 375,000 in just the first two months of 2025, according to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office. Full-year figures are projected to reach 2 million to 2.2 million, up from 1.7 million in 2024.

“Travelers today expect more than just beautiful views; they want to stay connected,” said Jun Juada, Globe’s territory business head. “By strengthening our network, we’re enhancing not only the Boracay experience but also the digital lifestyle of visitors and residents alike.”

The rollout aligns with Globe’s broader strategy to deliver consistent, high-quality digital experiences across the Philippines. From 2022 to 2024, the company was recognized as the Philippines’ Most Consistent Network by an unnamed global benchmarking firm, underscoring its investment in real-world performance.

Coinciding with the island’s Love Boracay 2025 celebrations, the enhanced connectivity ensures that social sharing, remote work, and digital bookings remain seamless for tourists, making the island more attractive not just for leisure but for “bleisure” travelers and digital nomads.
