The Philippine Daily Inquirer on Friday announced a strategic shift in its operations, transferring the publication of its print edition to its sister company, Inquirer Interactive Inc., effective July.
The corporate action aims to sustain the operation of one of the country’s largest newspapers amid declining advertising revenue and falling circulation.
In a statement, the 40-year-old newspaper said the integration of its print and digital operations would create new opportunities to engage Filipinos, regardless of their reading habits. The Inquirer has long been recognized as the most trusted broadsheet in the Philippines, with a significant readership both online and offline.
As part of the transition, several members of the editorial team have been invited to join Inquirer Interactive to help manage the multimedia platform. The rest of the staff will receive severance or separation benefits as stipulated by law or the collective bargaining agreement with the PDI Employees Union. This restructuring reflects the Inquirer’s commitment to adapting to the evolving media landscape while maintaining its journalistic standards.
The Inquirer’s decision to consolidate its print and digital operations underscores the challenges faced by traditional media outlets in the digital age.
