SM Hotels investing P5.3B in 5-year MICE expansion

SM Hotels and Convention Corp. (SMHCC), the hospitality arm of SM Prime Holdings Inc., is investing P5.3 billion over the next five years to expand its Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) presence.

The expansion begins with two major projects: SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu and SMXCITE in Pasay.

Opening in the third quarter of 2026, SMX Convention Center Seaside Cebu will be one of the largest, most advanced venues in the Visayas. Cebu ranks among the country’s top 10 provincial economies by GDP and is an ideal location for large events.

The venue offers over 21,000 square meters of leasable space across six levels, integrated with SM Seaside Arena and SM Seaside Cebu Mall. With spacious pre-function areas, advanced back-of-house facilities, and full digital infrastructure, it is positioned as a key regional hub.

In Pasay, SM Hotels broke ground on SMXCITE last April and is scheduled to open the facility in the first quarter of 2027. SMXCITE will add 18,000 square meters of leasable space, complementing the existing 17,000 square meters at SMX Manila, allowing the company to host multiple large events simultaneously.

“Our expansion into Cebu and Pasay reflects our confidence in these cities’ growth. By building flexible, next-generation venues, we aim to bring business and tourism benefits to more communities,” said SM Hotels executive vice president  Peggy Angeles.

These projects support SM Hotel’s strategy to grow outside Metro Manila, co-locating venues with hotels, malls, and transport for seamless access by organizers and guests.
