Pilmico, Iligan City launch corn post-harvest hub

Pilmico, the food and agribusiness arm of Aboitiz Foods, has partnered with the Iligan City Government to launch “Project Silk Iligan Post-Harvest Support,” an initiative aimed at strengthening the yellow corn value chain through improved infrastructure and farmer support.

At the core of the project is the construction of a corn dryer facility designed to reduce grain moisture content—crucial for preventing spoilage, ensuring safe storage, and enabling earlier, more efficient harvests. The facility will serve smallholder farmers in the upland barangays of Mandulog, Digkilaan, Rogongon, Dulag, Hindang, Kabacsanan, Bunawan, and Mainit.

“These partnerships show what’s possible when government, private sector, and communities align with one goal: to uplift farmers and strengthen agricultural ecosystems,” said Engr. Alexis Revantad, Pilmico’s Vice President for Operations. “Together, we’re working to sustainably feed Asia’s growth, from mill to meal.”

The farmers, newly organized into the Iligan Agriculture Cooperative, will benefit not just from infrastructure, but also from improved market access and long-term support. This aligns with Pilmico’s Project Silk, first launched in 2017 in Bukidnon to promote inclusive sourcing and capability-building for corn farmers across Mindanao.

“This may start small, but it’s a big step toward transformation,” said Iligan City Mayor Frederick Siao. “With strong partnerships like this, we’re not just building infrastructure—we’re building futures.”

The initiative marks a strategic expansion of Pilmico’s commitment to agricultural development through collaboration and entrepreneurship.
