Caticlan Airport Terminal set for 2027 completion

The new passenger terminal at Caticlan Airport, the main gateway to Boracay, is expected to be completed by 2027, the government announced Monday during a groundbreaking ceremony led by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The 24-month construction, to be handled by Megawide Construction Corp. as contracted designer, is part of the administration’s push to enhance infrastructure that supports economic growth and tourism. Once completed, the terminal will double the airport’s current capacity, accommodating up to seven million passengers annually.

President Marcos highlighted the terminal’s role in boosting the local and national economy, citing tourism’s nearly 8 percent contribution to the country’s local output, measured as the gross domestic product (GDP).

“The influx of people and travellers is going to be a big boost,” he said.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon underscored the value of public-private partnerships, thanking San Miguel Corp., as airport concessionaire, for committing to the terminal’s completion. “This project will bring great relief and convenience to our people,” Dizon added.

Caticlan Airport, the country’s fourth busiest, served over three million passengers in 2024. The new terminal will feature modernized check-in counters, baggage systems, and security screening to streamline travel for both domestic and international visitors.

Officials said the upgraded facility will not only enhance travel comfort but further solidify Boracay’s standing as a premier tourist destination.
