Insular Life Assurance Co. Ltd. (InLife), the country’s largest Filipino life insurer, has appointed Victor P. Lazatin as its new independent trustee, succeeding Francisco Ed. Lim, who recently assumed chairmanship of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
A prominent legal expert and senior legal counsel at Angara Abello Concepcion Regala & Cruz (ACCRA) Law Offices, lawyer Lazatin brings decades of experience in civil and commercial litigation, as well as local and international arbitration. He is an accredited arbitrator with several institutions, including the Construction Industry Arbitration Commission and arbitration centers in Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Singapore.
InLife executive chair Nina D. Aguas welcomed the appointment, stating: “Attorney Lazatin’s extensive legal background, integrity, and deep understanding of governance and arbitration bring tremendous value to our organization.” She underscored the strategic significance of the appointment, highlighting how his expertise will strengthen InLife’s commitment to excellence, corporate stewardship, and ethical business practices.
Lazatin’s professional affiliations include the Inter-Pacific Bar Association, ASEAN Law Association, and the Philippine Council of the International Chamber of Commerce. A graduate of the University of the Philippines, he placed third in the 1972 Bar Examinations and holds a Master of Laws from the University of Michigan as a Clyde A. DeWitt Fellow.
