    Unsolicited proposals aggregating P194 billion seek to widen light rail system

    The Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Wednesday bared receiving unsolicited proposals to build two railway lines worth an aggregate P194.05 billion. 

    Transportation Secretary Jaime J. Bautista said the agency received an unsolicited proposal to build the MRT 11, which will connect Monumento in Caloocan to San Jose de Monte, Bulacan. 

    According to the Public Private Partnership Center, the MRT 11 involves the  construction of an elevated, 18-kilometer Metro Railway Transit System (MRTS) starting from EDSA, Balintawak in Quezon City traversing along Quirino Highway, Novaliches, and Zabarte Road in North Caloocan City up to Barangay Gaya-gaya in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. 

    A passenger transfer facility proximate to the EDSA-Balintawak station of LRT Line 1 and the MRT 11 Balintawak station forms part of the plan. The indicative cost of the entire MRT 11 line is P81.79 billion. 

    Bautista also said the agency received another unsolicited proposal to build the C5 MRT 10 project. 

    The project involves the design, building, operating, and maintaining the approximately 22.5-km mostly elevated Light Railway Transit (LRT) System consisting of sixteen (16) stations along circumferential road C-5 connecting the Ninoy Aquino Terminal Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 to Quezon City, terminating at Commonwealth Avenue with possible interchange with MRT7 at Tandang Sora Station and LRT Line 2 at Aurora Station.

    The indicative cost of MRT 10 is P112.26 billion.

    Bautista did not disclose the identity of the companies that submitted proposals for the railway projects. 

    Other transport projects the DOTr is pursuing include LRT Line 6 project which is a 19-kilometer commuter rail line extending southward from Niyog, Bacoor (terminus of the LRT 1 CAVEX extension) to Dasmariñas City. 

    The LRT Line 6 will serve an estimated 45 percent  of the Cavite population. 

    The proposed right-of-way alignment is along the Aguinaldo Highway with seven stations, namely:  Niyog, Tirona, Imus, Daang Hari, Salitran, Congressional Avenue and Governor’s Drive .

    The DOTr is also building the Cebu Monorail Transit System project involving the construction and development of approximately 27-kilometer rail system.
