PetroEnergy Resources Corp. (PERC) announced that its affiliate, Buhawind Energy Northern Luzon Corp. (BENLC), has secured regulatory approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) for the facilities study of its 2,000 MW offshore wind project in Ilocos Norte.
The approval, granted in late July, is a critical milestone for integrating the planned offshore wind farm into the national grid. It outlines technical specifications for substation components, control systems, and transformer configurations. The project will connect to NGCP’s upcoming 500-kilovolt Burgos substation—deemed essential for project energization.
BENLC is a joint venture between PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC), PERC’s renewable energy arm, and Danish firm Copenhagen Energy. PGEC VP for technical operations Paul Elmer Morala said the approval strengthens BENLC’s infrastructure design and aligns with national goals for expanding clean energy supply.
In addition to grid integration, the project is progressing on port infrastructure and workforce development. BENLC is in talks with the Philippine Ports Authority regarding Port Currimao and collaborating with Mariano Marcos State University and Mapúa University to train a skilled offshore wind workforce.
This project is part of PERC’s broader renewables portfolio, which includes PGEC’s solar ventures in Bohol, Isabela, and Pangasinan, as well as PERC’s operational wind and solar assets in Tarlac and Aklan.
