Globe, DICT bolster anti-fraud efforts in PH digital space

Telecom giant Globe and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to strengthen joint efforts in combating online fraud, scams, and other cybercrimes, marking a significant public-private collaboration aimed at protecting consumers and reinforcing digital trust.

The agreement, which includes key government agencies such as the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), National Privacy Commission (NPC), and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), formalizes a collaborative framework for fraud prevention and investigation. This will enable deeper coordination and faster response to ICT-enabled crimes like phishing, identity theft, and SMS-based scams.

DICT Secretary Henry Aguda emphasized the need for such partnerships in creating a secure digital environment, saying the initiative reflects a shared commitment to empowering every Filipino through safe and inclusive connectivity.

Globe president and CEO Carl Cruz highlighted the initiative’s commercial and consumer impact, stressing that digital trust and safety are critical to sustaining connectivity as a tool for progress. Globe sees the partnership as a proactive move to protect its users and maintain confidence in its digital services.

Effective immediately for two years, the MOU includes provisions for regular reviews to adapt to evolving cyber threats. The collaboration is also expected to set a precedent for broader industry-government cooperation in securing the country’s digital infrastructure—both for public welfare and commercial resilience.
