Manila Water’s Salin Program expands Environmental education reach

Manila Water’s Salin Program, an environmental education initiative aimed at empowering public school teachers, has reached over 370 educators across the East Zone of Metro Manila since its launch in 2023.

Now in its third year, Salin—short for “transfer”—has steadily expanded its reach. From just 57 educators in its pilot year, the program grew to 166 teachers in 2024, and from January to August 2025 alone, it has already trained 149 more. With more sessions scheduled before the year ends, the total number of participants has risen to 372, representing 116 schools.

The program, in partnership with the Department of Education – National Capital Region, equips public elementary school teachers with tools to promote water conservation and sanitation awareness in classrooms and communities. Activities include technical lectures, interactive workshops, and watershed immersion sessions.

“Our educators are vital allies in helping the next generation understand the importance of protecting our water sources and practicing proper sanitation,” said Jeric Sevilla, director of Manila Water’s Corporate Communication Affairs Group.

Salin forms part of Manila Water’s broader push for climate-resilient communities, using education and collaboration as key pillars for sustainable development.
