MGen donates P17.3-million lighting system to Iloilo football ground

Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen), through its subsidiary Panay Energy Development Corp., has funded a P17.3-million lighting system for the La Paz Football Ground in Iloilo City.

In partnership with the Iloilo City Government and the One Meralco Foundation, the project marks the completion of the first internationally compliant football lighting system for a plaza-based facility in Western Visayas.

The professional-grade lighting will allow night games, training, and community events, boosting Iloilo’s reputation as a hub for local sports and recreation.

MGen president and CEO Emmanuel Rubio said the project reflects the company’s mission to empower communities beyond energy generation. The Iloilo City Government, led by Mayor Raisa Trenas, will handle the operation and maintenance of the facility, which is expected to help develop future football talents.

MGen, the power generation arm of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco), is also expanding its renewable energy portfolio. This year, its renewable energy unit MGreen plans to add 85.2 megawatts of solar power, including new and expanded solar plants in Cordon, Isabela, and Baras, Rizal.
