Gov’t pushes for cleaner, resilient future at Pilipinas Conference 2025

The Philippines is advancing plans for a sustainable and resilient future, with a focus on clean energy, economic growth, and stronger public-private partnerships, officials said at the Pilipinas Conference 2025.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin highlighted the need for a balanced energy mix—combining renewables, nuclear, and natural gas—to ensure reliable, affordable power while reducing dependence on imported fuels. She stressed the private sector’s key role in achieving the country’s clean energy goals.

Environment Secretary Raphael Lotilla emphasized sustainability and resilience in government policy, noting mining reforms aligned with UN goals and the push to double mining’s GDP contribution to 2 percent by 2028 through downstream processing and integration with clean energy. He also called for a circular economy approach, reusing and repurposing materials.

Private investors welcomed the reforms. ACCIONA’s Ruben Camba cited the Philippines as a leading renewable energy market in ASEAN, highlighting the company’s long-term, sustainability-driven projects.

Stratbase Institute president Victor Andres “Dindo” Manhit linked good governance to economic confidence, saying accountability and reform are vital for jobs, innovation, and investment.

The conference underscored a collaborative path forward for government, business, and civil society to build a sustainable and resilient Philippines.
