Youth-led tech solutions shine at BPI-DOST Innovation Awards

The Bank of the Philippine Islands, through the BPI Foundation, has renewed its partnership with the Department of Science and Technology to launch the BPI-DOST Innovation Awards 2025, highlighting its push to support young Filipino innovators working on science- and technology-based solutions to national problems.

The program featured the top 10 university teams whose projects tackled issues such as energy efficiency, healthcare, environmental protection, and food security. Their ideas ranged from AI-powered tools to sustainable materials and biotechnology applications, showcasing the growing role of youth-led innovation in building a more resilient and inclusive future.

BPI Foundation executive director Carmina Marquez said the awards demonstrate the power of science and technology in addressing urgent challenges and emphasized that supporting young innovators is essential to long-term national development.

The 2025 cycle opened in September with an intensive Innovation and Business Workshop led by experts from government, industry, and academia, who discussed topics such as design thinking, presentation skills, patents, business models, and technology commercialization.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. also visited the finalists’ exhibit to learn about their projects. A panel of judges from BPI, academia, government, and the private sector reviewed the entries. Three teams were named winners, each earning ₱150,000, while all 10 finalists received ₱60,000.
