Toyota rolls out battery EV for Philippine main stream market

Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) has officially switched on its full-electric era with the December 11 rollout of the all-new bZ4X, the company’s first Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) under the Toyota brand—and the clearest signal yet that the country’s No. 1 automaker is ready to push EVs into the Filipino mainstream.

The bZ4X, delivered to its first customers this week, expands TMP’s electrification playbook beyond hybrids and Lexus-branded EVs.

Until now, Toyota’s full-electric offerings in the Philippines sat exclusively within its luxury stable through the Lexus RZ and UX. The new nameplate plugs Toyota squarely into the volume EV race—an increasingly competitive segment as consumers warm up to cleaner mobility options and infrastructure slowly improves.

Powered by a 73.11 kWh lithium-ion battery and dual motors, the all-wheel-drive bZ4X brings Toyota’s familiar functionality into a fully electric footprint. Buyers get a free wall box charger and a portable charger—key sweeteners in a market still navigating home-charging adoption. Eco and X-Mode drive settings are on board, although real-world range will depend on variable conditions and driving behavior.

The launch is the latest milestone in TMP’s long-game “multi-pathway” strategy, which began with the Prius Hybrid Electric Vehicle back in 2009. Today, with 22 electrified Toyota and Lexus models on offer, the company commands the country’s broadest xEV lineup.

“It takes time and strategic planning to roll out our multi-pathway approach… but we believe we’re ready to make BEVs more mainstream with the Toyota bZ4X,” said Elijah Marcial, TMP First Vice President for Vehicle Sales Operations, citing stronger consumer understanding of EV tech and a steadily improving charging ecosystem.

With the bZ4X, Toyota is no longer just preparing Filipinos for electrified mobility—it’s switching the future on.
