BYD Philippines accelerates into electric mainstream

BYD Cars Philippines wrapped up 2025 with its strongest performance yet, posting record retail sales of 26,122 units and clinching the title of the country’s fastest-growing automotive brand.

This underscores the rapid rise of new energy vehicles (NEVs) as Filipino buyers increasingly pivot toward electrified mobility.

Riding on the momentum, BYD renewed its passenger car distributorship with ACMobility, cementing a long-term commitment to the Philippine market. The partnership, which began in August 2023, has powered BYD’s aggressive expansion, backed by a growing nationwide charging network and strengthened aftersales support.

The 2025 tally represents a staggering 446 percent year-on-year surge, firmly positioning BYD as the local market leader in NEVs. Demand was broad-based across the lineup, reflecting growing consumer confidence in electric and hybrid technologies.

The BYD Seagull emerged as the brand’s top-selling model, leading total battery electric vehicle (BEV) sales of 4,608 units. Meanwhile, the Sealion 6 DM-i topped the company’s plug-in hybrid range, highlighting strong uptake for flexible electrified options.

“2025 marked a significant milestone in the advancement and broader adoption of new energy vehicles in the country,” said Bob Palanca, managing director of BYD Cars Philippines. “Our growth shows that when innovation is paired with accessibility, the market responds positively.”

By the end of 2025, BYD met its target of 79 operational dealerships nationwide, nearly tripling its footprint from just 25 locations a year earlier.

“These milestones signal our unwavering commitment to the Philippines,” said Adam Hu, country head of BYD Philippines. “Together with ACMobility, we aim to make new energy vehicles the standard, not the exception, for Filipino drivers.”

Analysts say the results could pressure rivals to accelerate electrification plans across the broader domestic auto sector.
