    Shera intensifies Philippine expansion drive

Thai fiber cement maker Shera Public Company Limited is gearing up for a second expansion phase in the Philippines, signaling deeper confidence in the country’s construction and housing boom.

In a recent dialogue in Bangkok with Trade Secretary Cristina A. Roque, Shera executives led by chief executive officer Ongon Taechahamaphant asked for the Department of Trade and Industry’s support to fast-track the next stage of its local growth strategy.

Taechahamaphant said the company wants Phase 2 to extend Shera’s reach nationwide through additional capital spending. “We want the second phase of our investment to supply the entire country, and we plan to achieve that by investing more,” he said, pointing to a broader push beyond its current regional footprint.

While investment values and timelines remain undisclosed, Shera said the expansion will target both government and private sector demand, including public schools, housing, and large infrastructure projects. The company sees sustained opportunities as public construction and mass housing programs accelerate.

Shera currently produces up to 120,000 metric tons of fibre cement products annually in the Philippines. This capacity generated about P2.7 billion in revenue last year and supports roughly 150 Filipino workers, underscoring the operation’s growing economic footprint.

Roque welcomed the plan, noting strong prospects for construction materials suppliers. “There is ample room for Shera to expand, especially in mass housing. We are building many houses for Filipinos,” she said.

Shera operates its first overseas manufacturing facility at the TECO Industrial Park in Mabalacat City, Pampanga. Founded in Thailand in 1974, the company produces environmentally friendly fibre cement boards, panels, sidings, and wood substitute products for domestic and export markets.

The Philippines remains central to Shera’s long-term Southeast Asian growth ambitions.
