The satellite campuses of the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Batangas and Laguna have pooled more than 1,150 kilowatts (kW) of electricity demand to secure direct renewable energy supply from First Gen Corporation.
Under an agreement signed on Feb. 5, 2026, LPU will source geothermal power from First Gen’s Unified Leyte plants in Tongonan, Ormoc City, and Kananga, Leyte. The campuses have already shifted to geothermal energy, with the aggregation of their electricity consumption taking effect on Feb. 16, 2026 through the government’s Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).
RAP allows power consumers with at least 500 kW of pooled demand in contiguous areas or under common ownership to directly negotiate with electricity suppliers. The threshold will be lowered to 100 kW per month starting June 26, 2026, broadening participation.
LPU president Dr. Peter Laurel said the partnership will help rationalize power costs and advance the university’s sustainability goals. First Gen chief customer engagement officer Carlo Vega said the company looks forward to supporting LPU’s push for greener campuses.
The LPU system operates five campuses across Metro Manila and Southern Luzon and has committed to expanding renewable energy use and reducing carbon emissions.
First Gen, a subsidiary of First Philippine Holdings Corporation, operates 1,700 megawatts of renewable energy capacity from geothermal, hydro, wind, and solar sources. It also holds a 40% stake in four gas-fired power plants with a combined capacity of 2,017 MW, majority-owned by Prime Infrastructure Capital, Inc..
