The St. Luke’s Medical Center – Global City has expanded its imaging services with five advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, reducing long waiting times for patients and improving access to diagnostic care.
Hospital officials said the larger MRI capacity allows more patients to be accommodated, including urgent and emergency cases, without delaying scheduled appointments. This helps shorten waiting times that previously took weeks.
Dr. Maricar P. Reyes, head of the hospital’s Institute of Radiology, said the upgrade responds to common complaints about delays in MRI scheduling. She added that the new setup enables faster service while maintaining high image quality and patient comfort.
The hospital now uses a mix of MRI machines with different strengths, allowing doctors to choose the most suitable scan for each patient. These include a high-powered 3.0 Tesla MRI for complex cases, three 1.5 Tesla units for routine scans, and a newly added 0.55 Tesla system designed for greater comfort and fewer distortions, especially for patients with implants.
The newest MRI machine is also quieter and more open, making it more suitable for children, elderly patients, and those who have difficulty staying still during long scans.
Alongside upgraded equipment, the hospital said its team of specialized radiologists ensures more accurate readings across areas such as brain, heart, and musculoskeletal imaging.
The expanded services also support procedures like whole-body MRI, a radiation-free scan that can check multiple organs in under an hour.
Officials said the combined improvements in technology and expertise aim to provide faster diagnoses and better overall patient care.
