The planned expansion of Tong Hsing Electronics Phils., Inc. in Laguna is set to strengthen the Philippines’ position in the global electronics value chain, according to the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA).
The Taiwanese firm broke ground on March 18 for a 26,000-square-meter production facility at Carmelray Industrial Park I. The plant will manufacture custom hybrid microcircuits and optically isolated solid-state relays for export markets.
PEZA said the investment underscores sustained investor confidence in the country’s electronics sector and aligns with efforts to attract higher-value manufacturing. “This expansion strengthens the Philippines’ participation in advanced electronics manufacturing and supports our push to move up the global value chain,” the agency said.
Since registering with PEZA in 1994, Tong Hsing has invested more than P3 billion in the Philippines, generated roughly USD90 million in exports, and created about 3,000 direct jobs.
Company President Heinz Ru said the expansion reflects Tong Hsing’s long-term commitment to the country and forms part of its strategy to scale operations amid rising global demand.
A leading IC hybrid assembly provider, Tong Hsing specializes in advanced chip-scale packaging technologies such as land grid array (LGA) and ball grid array (BGA). It also offers printed circuit board assembly, multi-chip modules for radio frequency applications, image products, and ceramic assembly, supported by cleanroom facilities ranging from Class 10 to Class 100,000.
PEZA said the new facility is expected to boost exports, create more high-quality jobs, and reinforce the Philippines as a competitive hub for high-precision electronics manufacturing.
