The Philippine Chamber of Telecommunication Operators (PCTO) has asked the government to slow down the implementation of the Konektadong Pinoy Act, warning that rushing complex policies during a national crisis could harm the industry.
While supporting the law’s goal of improving internet access, the group called on regulators to address key concerns first. These include policies on infrastructure sharing, the “dig once” rule, and cybersecurity, which they say are being pushed forward too quickly and at the same time.
PCTO said telecom companies are already under pressure due to rising costs, supply chain issues, and increased demand for connectivity during the crisis. It warned that overlapping deadlines are adding strain to operations.
The group also urged the government to use the full one-year period to develop the Spectrum Management and Policy Framework, saying a rushed plan may not meet technical needs or long-term public interest.
PCTO is requesting a temporary halt on new policy issuances during the crisis, arguing that this pause would help maintain stable and reliable telecom services, which are essential during emergencies.
