Monde Nissin cited for plastic, circular gains

Monde Nissin Corp. has received a Special Citation for Obliged Enterprises at the 2026 Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Recognition Program, highlighting its progress in cutting plastic use and advancing circular packaging.

The recognition, conferred by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Philippine Alliance for Recycling and Materials Sustainability, underscores the company’s compliance with—and leadership under—the country’s EPR law.

“This recognition affirms our commitment to environmental stewardship and to creating sustainable solutions that improve both people’s well-being and the planet,” the company said.

Monde Nissin said it reduced plastic use by 176,000 kilograms from 2023 to November 2025 through packaging redesign and operational efficiencies. Measures included lightweighting packaging for Monde Mamon, eliminating sachets for Lucky Me! Mini Go Cup, and introducing resealable Lucky Me! Salu-Salo packs that cut outer plastic use by 25 percent.

The company also reported gains in circularity. By 2024, 94 percent of its plastic packaging by volume was mono-material—approaching its 95 percent target by 2025. It added that it achieved full recovery and diversion of its plastic footprint in both 2023 and 2024, including hard-to-recycle flexible plastics.

Beyond its operations, Monde Nissin expanded community-based recycling through its Aling Tindera Program, recovering 600 metric tons of waste in 2024 and generating about P1.5 million in income for women micro-entrepreneurs.

The citation highlights how closer collaboration among industry, government, and communities can accelerate solutions to plastic waste and strengthen more sustainable systems.
