The Philippine Airlines (PAL) announced Thursday it will cancel several international and domestic flights due to changing global aviation conditions, including rising fuel costs.
The airline said flights between Cebu and Guam will be suspended starting April 16 until further notice. Cebu–Ho Chi Minh City flights will also be canceled beginning April 19, except for select trips on May 1, 3, 24, and 31.
Domestic routes are also affected. Flights from Clark to Siargao will stop starting May 4, followed by Cebu to Ozamiz on May 5, and Cebu to Calbayog on May 6. All suspensions will remain in effect until further notice.
PAL apologized for the disruption and said it is reviewing routes for possible resumption. Affected passengers may rebook within 60 days without penalties, convert tickets into travel credits, or request a full refund.
Customer service support is available through PAL’s website, contact centers, and ticket offices. Cargo shipments on the affected routes will also be disrupted, though the airline is working with partners to arrange alternatives.
Data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA) shows jet fuel prices have surged by 118.8 percent to US$197 per barrel as of March 20 compared to last year. In response, the Civil Aeronautics Board has raised the fuel surcharge level from 4 to 8, increasing added costs for both domestic and international flights.
