Fuel supply dips slightly; diesel imports to arrive this month

The countey’s total fuel supply is projected to last just 50.42 days, down slightly from last week’s 50.94 days, the Department of Energy (DOE) reported Tuesday. The inventory covers gasoline, diesel, kerosene, jet fuel, fuel oil, and LPG, including fuel already in the country and shipments confirmed through May 1.

By fuel type: gasoline supply fell to 57.58 days, kerosene to 106.22 days, fuel oil to 52.26 days, and LPG to 33.10 days. Diesel rose slightly to 47.26 days, while jet fuel jumped to 66.37 days.

To bolster supply, the government is bringing in 900,000 barrels of diesel this month. The first shipment, sourced from Malaysia via Singapore, arrives Friday, with two more shipments expected from India in the coming weeks. Private firms are also importing fuel from South Korea, China, Singapore, and Malaysia.

Energy Secretary Sharon Garin warned that global oil price pressures will persist, saying the market faces a “structural change” following the Middle East conflict. She added that even suspending the fuel excise tax would not immediately lower local prices.

As of April 6, Metro Manila prices were: P91 per liter for RON 91 gasoline, P128.80 for diesel, and P155 for kerosene. The DOE is still updating official price monitoring after recent increases.
