Cebu Airport recognized for regional service excellence

Travel through the Philippines’ central gateway continues to evolve as passenger experience becomes a key measure of airport performance across Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of this shift is Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which has emerged as one of the region’s most closely watched mid-sized hubs.

Mactan-Cebu International Airport recently received the 2025 Airports Council International World Airport Service Quality Best Airport Award in the 5–15 million passengers category for Asia-Pacific. The recognition is the airport’s second consecutive win in the segment, signaling sustained performance in passenger service metrics tracked globally.

The award is based on traveler feedback covering areas such as ease of navigation, wait times, and overall satisfaction.

It places MCIA among a select group of airports in the region that have maintained consistent service standards despite growing passenger volumes.

The airport is operated under Aboitiz InfraCapital Airports, which manages a portfolio of gateway facilities in the Philippines. The group has positioned MCIA as a key domestic and international transfer hub outside Metro Manila, supporting increased inter-island and regional connectivity.

Operational improvements have been anchored on the CEB Connects transfer program. It enables domestic-to-domestic connections in as little as 35 minutes, while international transfers are targeted at around 60 minutes.

The system is designed around a single integrated terminal, reducing the need for inter-terminal transfers.

Airport officials have pointed to terminal layout and process integration as key factors in improving passenger flow.

The setup aims to reduce bottlenecks in security checks, boarding gates, and baggage handling during peak travel periods.

MCIA’s performance reflects broader competition among Southeast Asian secondary hubs to attract transit traffic and tourism flows. As air travel demand continues to recover and expand, efficiency and reliability have become central benchmarks.

The latest recognition reinforces MCIA’s role in supporting tourism and trade flows to central and southern Philippines, particularly Cebu’s growing position as both a leisure and business destination.
