Aboitiz Airports hold first risk day to boost resilience

Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC) Airports has convened its airport units for its first-ever Risk Day, aimed at strengthening operational resilience and long-term stability across its growing network.

Held at Mactan-Cebu International Airport, the event gathered leaders and teams from Laguindingan International Airport and Bohol-Panglao International Airport. The initiative brought together airport operators, risk specialists, and global advisors to align strategies in managing emerging threats and disruptions.

AIC president and chief executive officer Cosette V. Canilao said the initiative reflects the company’s focus on ensuring that infrastructure growth is supported by strong safety and reliability measures.

She emphasized the importance of embedding a culture of preparedness across airport operations to protect assets and support stakeholders.

Discussions during the session focused on translating global risks into actionable strategies at the local level. Key areas included geopolitical uncertainty, the rapid growth of regional hubs, and increasing cybersecurity threats. These factors, AIC said, have direct implications for airport performance and passenger experience.

AIC Airports CEO Athanasios Titonis highlighted that managing risks early is critical to sustaining expansion and maintaining safe, reliable operations for travelers. He noted that resilience must be integrated into all aspects of airport development and connectivity efforts.

The event also featured workshops where teams developed site-specific plans to address potential disruptions. These sessions aimed to move beyond theory by equipping airport units with practical tools for risk mitigation.

The Risk Day was conducted in partnership with Marsh, which provided expertise in assessing evolving geopolitical, technological, and regional risks.

AIC said the initiative forms part of its broader effort to strengthen risk management as a core function of its infrastructure operations, particularly as it expands its airport portfolio across the Philippines.
