The Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) has approved a three-month extension for expired or soon-to-expire documents of Filipino seafarers who cannot disembark due to the ongoing security crisis in the Middle East.
The extension covers Seafarer’s Record Books (SRBs), Seafarer’s Identification and Record Books (SIRBs), and Seafarer’s Identity Documents (SIDs). It is automatically applied to documents expiring on or before June 30, 2026, meaning seafarers no longer need to file individual requests.
MARINA said the move aims to ease the burden on seafarers stranded at sea under difficult conditions, ensuring document requirements do not add further stress.
Shipping companies, shipowners, and Licensed Manning Agencies are required to report affected cases to MARINA via email. Submissions must be signed by authorized company representatives or vessel Masters and follow the format under Advisory No. 2026-21.
MARINA administrator Sonia Malaluan said the agency is acting with urgency to support seafarers affected by the crisis.
“Our seafarers are in a situation they did not choose, far from their families and uncertain when they can return home,” Malaluan said, adding that the extension is meant to give them “breathing space.”
MARINA reaffirmed its commitment to protect Filipino seafarers worldwide and respond quickly to crises affecting their safety and welfare.
