The Department of Energy (DOE) has handed over a 40-kilowatt peak solar power system to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) at its complex in Taguig City.
The turnover took place on April 27 and was tied to the launch of TESDA’s Regional TVET Innovation Center.
According to the DOE, the solar facility is part of its program to promote renewable energy use and improve energy efficiency in government buildings. Officials said the goal is to reduce electricity costs, lower dependence on the power grid, and encourage clean energy awareness.
Energy Secretary Sharon Garin said the project shows the government’s commitment to lead by example in adopting renewable energy, noting that similar systems in public facilities can serve as models for communities.
The solar installation is expected to help TESDA cut electricity expenses, with potential savings redirected to training programs, facility upgrades, and wider access to technical education.
Beyond cost savings, the system will also be used as a learning tool for TESDA trainees, giving them direct exposure to renewable energy technology in an active government facility.
The DOE said the initiative supports the country’s long-term targets of increasing renewable energy use to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, and highlights the role of public institutions in promoting sustainable energy practices.
