SPC Power sets P3-B capex for battery, solar expansion

SPC Power Corp. has set aside P3 billion in capital expenditures for 2026 to support the development of battery energy storage system (BESS) and solar power projects.

During an online briefing on Thursday, newly appointed president and chief executive officer James Roy Villareal said the company plans to commission 160 megawatt-hours (MWh) of BESS projects by the second half of 2026. SPC Power is also targeting the development of 100 megawatts (MW) of solar capacity between 2027 and 2028.

Villareal said the company’s priorities include launching battery storage projects, accelerating solar development, and improving the performance of existing power plants. He added that the company’s entry into BESS aims to support the integration of more renewable energy into the power grid.

SPC Power also reported a record consolidated comprehensive income of P2.223 billion for 2025, up 43 percent from the previous year and marking the first time the company exceeded the P2 billion level. The growth was mainly attributed to improved power plant availability, which rose to 96.4 percent in 2025 from 86 percent in 2024.

The company reaffirmed plans to add 500 MW of new capacity through strategic acquisitions and new projects, although no further details were disclosed.

SPC Power also announced a leadership transition, with James Roy Villareal taking over as president and CEO from company founder Dennis Villareal. The elder Villareal will remain with the company as chairman emeritus after serving as president and CEO for 32 years.

SPC Power operates several power generation facilities, including diesel power plants in Bohol and Iloilo, and holds a stake in the 2×100 MW KEPCO SPC Power Corp. coal-fired power plant in Cebu.
