BanKo highlights mothers driving family success through small business

Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) subsidiary BanKo highlighted the role of Filipino mothers in improving their families’ lives through small businesses and entrepreneurship.

One example is Madelyn Nayre from Baybay City, Leyte, who started with a small sari-sari store more than 20 years ago while raising three children with her husband. Through BanKo loans, she expanded her store, entered the lumber trading business, and later bought a mini dump truck to improve deliveries.

Her businesses, LYNLYN Sari-Sari Store and MAUI Cocolumber and Furniture Trading, now operate from a permanent location in Barangay Imelda and employ 15 workers. She has also expanded into selling hollow blocks and has become a trusted lumber supplier in Baybay City and nearby towns.

Nayre said her businesses helped provide a more stable future for her family and support her children’s education.

BanKo said its NegosyoKo loan products, which range from P5,000 to P500,000, are aimed at helping microentrepreneurs start and grow their businesses.

In 2025, BanKo released more than P23.7 billion in loans and has supported over 400,000 entrepreneurs nationwide since 2016. The bank added that 68 percent of its clients are women, many of them mothers supporting their families through small businesses.

BanKo president Rod Mabiasen Jr. said the bank remains committed to supporting women entrepreneurs by giving them access to financial tools that can help improve their livelihoods and communities.
