Security Bank Corp. and its investment banking arm Security Bank Capital Investment Corp. have won three Asian Banking & Finance Awards 2026, recognizing their digital banking initiatives and role in financing one of the Philippines’ largest renewable energy projects.
Security Bank’s Retail Banking Segment was named Mobile Banking & Payment Initiative of the Year–Philippines, while its Wholesale Banking Segment won Domestic Digital Transformation Bank of the Year. Security Bank Capital took home Syndicated Loan of the Year–Philippines for arranging a P150-billion senior term loan for Terra Solar Philippines Inc.
The awards underscore the group’s BetterBanking strategy, which aims to make financial services more accessible, simplify corporate transactions, and mobilize capital for large-scale infrastructure projects.
Security Bank said its mobile banking platform has helped more than 23,000 new-to-bank customers open accounts digitally through electronic know-your-customer processes, including biometric verification and instant identity validation.
“Digital innovation only matters if it makes banking easier for customers,” said Security Bank SVP and Strategic Projects Head Myla Untalan.
The bank is also pushing digital tools deeper into corporate banking. Its QRPay via API allows companies to integrate payment generation, processing, and reporting directly into their own systems.
The move appears to be gaining traction. Transaction counts through the service jumped 284 percent, while transaction volume increased 187 percent from 2024 to 2025.
On the investment banking side, Security Bank Capital arranged P150 billion in 15-year financing for Terra Solar, supporting what was considered the world’s largest integrated solar and battery storage project as of 2025.
“This transaction reflects our ability to structure innovative financing solutions for landmark infrastructure projects,” said Security Bank Capital President and CEO Virgilio Chua.
The Terra Solar deal also positions the bank group as a significant financing partner in the Philippines’ energy transition, where large-scale renewable projects require longer-term capital and increasingly complex financing structures.
Taken together, the awards highlight two sides of Security Bank’s growth strategy, using technology to make everyday banking easier while deploying financial expertise to fund projects that could reshape the country’s infrastructure and energy landscape.
