Canada joins Luzon Economic Corridor partnership

The Philippines showcased significant progress in legal and regulatory reforms during the Luzon Economic Corridor (LEC) Steering Committee meeting on May 12, highlighting efforts to create a transparent, competitive, and investment-friendly business environment.

A joint statement from the US Embassy in Manila confirmed that Canada has joined the partnership, strengthening investment cooperation and innovation linkages. Other LEC partners include Australia, Denmark, France, Italy, Republic of Korea, Sweden, and the UK.

The reforms aim to attract high-quality investments, boost investor confidence, and support long-term, inclusive economic growth.

Committee members held constructive discussions on remaining policy and implementation challenges while identifying priority areas for future reforms across key sectors. The meeting also emphasized ongoing coordination among participating governments to ensure reforms translate into tangible improvements in the investment climate and project delivery.

The US, Japan, and the Philippines reaffirmed their commitment to advancing economic growth through the LEC, aiming to develop a world-class economic hub that strengthens supply chain resilience.

Progress was reported in energy, transport and logistics, digital connectivity, and advanced manufacturing. Energy cooperation supports infrastructure for industrial growth, while upgrades to transport and logistics—including rail and airports—enhance connectivity and trade. Digital and manufacturing initiatives aim to position the corridor as a trusted player in global technology supply chains.

The expanded partnership signals growing international confidence in the LEC as a driver of inclusive growth and resilience. It is expected to accelerate project implementation, mobilize private capital, and deepen regional economic integration, supporting long-term development goals across the Indo-Pacific region.
