Philippine seafood exporters secured about P31.68 billion in booked and negotiated sales during the 32nd Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona, Spain, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA).
The DA said booked sales reached P27.73 billion, while ongoing negotiated deals totaled P3.95 billion, reflecting strong global demand for Philippine seafood and aquaculture products.
Agriculture officials said the result is significant because it strengthens the country’s position in the international seafood market and opens more opportunities for local exporters, fishers, and aquaculture businesses. The government also highlighted the importance of meeting European quality and sustainability standards to stay competitive globally.
The Philippine delegation, led by Fisheries Undersecretary Drusila Esther Bayate, worked with 12 local exporters during the event. Buyers from over 150 countries visited the Philippine pavilion, where companies showcased fresh and processed seafood products along with sustainable fishing and modern aquaculture practices.
Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. said the strong turnout shows the large global market potential for Philippine seafood if the country continues improving product standards, marketing, and export support.
The expo also featured new technologies in aquaculture, including AI-assisted fish processing and sustainable aquafeeds, with over 2,000 exhibitors participating worldwide. Officials said continued government support in logistics, technical assistance, and regulatory compliance will be key to sustaining export growth.
