PLDT Inc. is accelerating its transformation from a telecommunications provider into a technology-driven company, betting on artificial intelligence, network resilience, and sustainability initiatives to drive long-term growth while balancing profitability with environmental and social commitments.
The strategy was outlined in PLDT’s 2025 Annual and Sustainability Report, themed “Going Beyond the Signal,” which highlighted the company’s investments in renewable energy, digital infrastructure, governance reforms, and climate resilience as part of its broader push to create long-term value.
Chairman and chief executive officer Manuel V. Pangilinan said the company’s evolution goes beyond expanding connectivity services, emphasizing the need to create sustainable growth through technology and responsible business practices.
“This is what going beyond the signal means to us–not simply adapting to modernity, but having the ambition to redefine it,” Pangilinan said. “When we committed to fiber, many questioned the economics. When we invested in networks that would carry 5G, the timeline seemed uncertain. In both cases, the investment proved right because we were investing in the Filipino people.”
PLDT said artificial intelligence is increasingly being used to improve customer experience, strengthen network efficiency, and enhance workforce productivity. The company also continued expanding fiber infrastructure and deploying digital trust and cybersecurity solutions as demand for data and enterprise services grows.
Sustainability initiatives remained a major focus in 2025. PLDT reported stronger climate adaptation measures through the fortification of network infrastructure against extreme weather events, alongside efforts to reduce emissions through renewable energy adoption and energy-efficient technologies.
The company also rolled out policies on biodiversity conservation, water stewardship, and energy management as it aligned operations with global sustainability standards.
Chief sustainability officer Melissa Vergel de Dios said PLDT is broadening its priorities beyond profitability and network expansion.
“To ensure our long-term corporate existence, we are expanding the conversation beyond speed, reach, and profitability to include whether we can create lasting value without depleting resources, especially people and the environment,” she said.
PLDT earned a score of 77 out of 100 in the 2025 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment and secured inclusion in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook for the second straight year.
