Oishi maker increasing investment on PH coconuts

Liwayway Holdings Co., Ltd., the group behind the popular Oishi snack brand, is deepening its investment in the Philippines with plans to establish a coconut processing hub aimed at supplying China’s rapidly expanding demand for coconut-based products.

The proposed expansion took center stage during a May 23 meeting in Shanghai between Department of Trade and Industry Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque and Larry Chan, together with executives from AGL Group and Joyvio Freshcall. The discussions were facilitated by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center-Shanghai.

Chan said the group has spent more than a year evaluating potential locations across the Philippines and is now moving ahead with its first coconut processing facility in General Santos City. The plant is expected to manufacture both food and non-food coconut products for distribution across China through the companies’ combined commercial networks.

Beyond coconuts, Liwayway is also eyeing more Philippine agricultural exports for the Chinese market, including ube, pili nuts, and specialty coffee — a move that could open fresh opportunities for local agribusiness producers seeking access to Asia’s largest consumer market.

Headquartered in Shanghai, Liwayway operates manufacturing and distribution networks across 10 Asian markets, including the Philippines, China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Thailand.
