Daily minimum wage in NCR to rise mid-July by P40

The daily minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region will increase starting July 16 to P610 for non-agricultural workers, and to P573 for workers in the farm sector, service and retail establishments with 15 employees or less, and factories with less than 10 regular employees.

This follows a decision by the Regional Tripartite and Productivity Board to increase the daily minimum wage by P40 after considering several petitions from various labor groups that sought the wage hike amid rising prices of basic goods and commodities.

The wage board said the 7 percent increase lifts the NCR’s daily wage above the regional poverty threshold of P452 for a family of five, and will directly benefit 1.1 million workers.

It could also result in adjustments of some 1.5 million full-time workers with salaries above the minimum daily wage.

The minimum daily wage in NCR was last raised in June last year by P33.

Wage increases usually affect inflation, which the central bank watches closely to determine interest rates.

Wages across the NCR were last adjusted in May last year and took effect the following June.
