Indonesian lifestyle retail leader PT Mitra Adiperkasa Tbk (MAP) has secured the franchise rights to run Marks & Spencer (M&S) stores in the Philippines, taking over from local firm SSI Group Inc. This move aligns with M&S’ strategy to work with fewer, more strategic partners across Southeast Asia, building on MAP’s 26 years of successful M&S operations in Indonesia and Vietnam.
M&S has been present in the country since 1984, and the transition was confirmed earlier this year to support the brand’s regional expansion goals. Under the new partnership, M&S Fashion, Home, Beauty, and Food lines will return to the market by the end of 2026, with the first location set to open at Glorietta in Makati, alongside reopened online channels.
M&S International managing director Mark Lemming cited MAP’s proven local expertise as key to accelerating growth, noting strong consumer demand for the brand in the Philippines. MAP Fashion CEO Sameer Prasad called the takeover a major milestone, highlighting the country’s fast-growing market and Manila as the ideal starting point to strengthen M&S’ presence and deliver an improved shopping experience for Filipino customers.
The shift brings a seasoned regional operator to the brand, promising expanded product ranges and renewed retail presence, while reflecting a broader trend of major international retailers consolidating franchise partnerships to better capture growth in Southeast Asia.
