ICTSI secures Melbourne port concession until 2066

International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI) has locked in another 26 years of operations at Australia’s busiest container gateway, extending its Melbourne terminal concession to 2066 and reinforcing the long-term earnings visibility of one of its flagship overseas assets.

The global port operator of billionaire Enrique Razon Jr. said its wholly owned subsidiary, Victoria International Container Terminal Ltd. (VICT), has secured all regulatory approvals and fulfilled the required conditions to extend its agreement with Port of Melbourne Operations Pty Ltd. to operate the Webb Dock East terminal.

The extension pushes the contract’s expiry from 2040 to 2066, giving ICTSI a remaining concession life of 40 years.

The long-term deal comes as VICT completes an expansion program scheduled for late 2026 that will increase the terminal’s annual handling capacity to an estimated 1.6 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs). Importantly, ICTSI said no significant capital expenditure is expected for further capacity expansion under the extended concession.

That combination of a longer operating runway and limited additional capital requirements is expected to strengthen the terminal’s cash generation profile while enhancing returns on invested capital.

VICT is Australia’s first fully automated container terminal and among the world’s most technologically advanced port facilities. Its ability to handle larger container vessels positions it as a key gateway for trade flowing through Melbourne and the state of Victoria.

The concession extension further bolsters ICTSI’s portfolio, which is increasingly anchored by long-dated operating contracts that provide recurring revenue and earnings stability across economic cycles.

The agreement also reflects continued confidence from port authorities in ICTSI’s operational capabilities at a time when automation, efficiency, and larger vessel accommodation have become critical competitive advantages for global container terminals.

The extension further cements Melbourne as one of ICTSI’s cornerstone assets outside the Philippines, supporting the company’s long-term international growth strategy.
