NLEX Corp. has activated comprehensive rainy season measures to protect motorists, deliver timely traffic information, and sustain smooth expressway operations amid bad weather.
In preparation, the firm cleaned its drainage systems and serviced pumps and detention tanks in Balintawak and Paso de Blas, Valenzuela during the dry months. Going beyond its own facilities, NLEX supported the government’s Oplan Kontra Baha by clearing heavily clogged waterways in Valenzuela, Caloocan, and Manila from January to May. “Clearing these critical waterways allows stormwater to flow freely and lowers flood risk that could reach the expressway,” said NLEX president and general manager Luis S. Reñon. He also thanked partners DPWH, TRB, MMDA, and local governments, and urged communities to help keep waterways trash-free.
The company has pre-positioned portable flood barriers, rescue boats, and emergency gear, while installing real-time water-level cameras at key creek crossings for faster response and advisories. Maintenance crews are also repairing road surfaces—including an asphalt overlay between Ciudad de Victoria and Bocaue—improving roadside drainage, and trimming trees to reduce wind-related hazards. Full emergency and traffic teams will remain on duty throughout the season, working closely with authorities to ensure public safety.
