Cebu Pacific, the budget carrier brand of the Gokongwei’s listed Cebu Air Inc., is taking a major leap in inflight connectivity, announcing plans to equip its fleet with SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet beginning in 2027, becoming the first low-cost airline in Southeast Asia to offer the service.
The move reflects a broader shift in aviation, where reliable onboard internet is increasingly viewed as a competitive necessity rather than a premium perk. For Cebu Pacific, the investment is as much about operational efficiency as passenger experience, allowing travelers to stream videos, work online, make video calls, and stay connected throughout their flights while improving communications for flight crews and ground operations.
The rollout also places Cebu Pacific within one of the airline industry’s largest connectivity initiatives. Alongside fellow Indigo Partners portfolio carriers—Frontier Airlines in the United States, Wizz Air in Europe, Volaris in Mexico, and JetSMART in South America—the airline expects to participate in the installation of Starlink across more than 1,000 aircraft worldwide.
“Introducing Starlink marks another important step in delivering a better travel experience for every Juan,” said Cebu Pacific President and Chief Commercial Officer Xander Lao. “Reliable, high-speed connectivity has become an expectation for today’s travelers, and we’re excited to bring that experience to our guests.”
The announcement comes as Cebu Pacific continues an aggressive fleet expansion, operating 100 aircraft—one of the youngest fleets globally—while expanding its network across Asia, Australia, and the Middle East.
For airlines, inflight connectivity is increasingly becoming part of the broader digital travel ecosystem, enabling ancillary revenues and improving customer loyalty. Budget carriers, traditionally focused on keeping costs low by stripping away non-essential services, are now recalibrating as passengers expect seamless internet access wherever they are.
By embracing Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite network, Cebu Pacific is betting that affordable air travel no longer has to mean disconnected travel, positioning itself at the forefront of a technological shift that could redefine expectations for low-cost flying across the region.
