BSP: Stable economy, strong financial system key to building future industries in Mindanao

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has reaffirmed its backing of the national government’s drive to develop new growth industries, noting these sectors can only take root and expand on the bedrock of economic stability and a robust financial system.

“Future industries do not happen by chance. They are made today upon the right foundations of macroeconomic stability, a sound financial system, technological innovation, and strong public-private partnerships,” BSP Deputy Governor Zeno Ronald R. Abenoja stated in his opening remarks at the Philippine Economic Briefing (PEB) held here Monday, under the theme “Make Future Industries Happen.”

Gathering leaders from government, business, and the private sector, the briefing focused on the country’s economic outlook and strategies to boost investment and unlock future industries across Mindanao. Abenoja pointed to promising growth areas in the region, including agribusiness, manufacturing, logistics, digital services, and renewable energy, and emphasized that policy certainty and solid economic fundamentals are critical to turning these prospects into tangible progress.

He outlined key enabling conditions that will drive investment, innovation, and employment: rising confidence that inflation will settle within official targets, the banking sector’s continued ability to provide credit for expansion, and faster, more secure digital payment systems that lower transaction costs and support broader economic activity.

The program included two panel sessions examining Mindanao’s growth trajectory and the macroeconomic frameworks needed to nurture emerging industries, as well as ways to translate national priorities laid out in the 2026 Strategic Investment Priority Plan (SIPP) into concrete regional projects. The event forms part of the broader implementation of the SIPP led by the Department of Trade and Industry–Board of Investments (DTI-BOI), and runs alongside ongoing public consultations on fiscal plans and macroeconomic assumptions led by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Organized by the BSP’s Investor Relations Group in partnership with the Department of Finance, DTI-BOI, and DBM, the Philippine Economic Briefing series serves as a key platform to align national policies with regional development goals and attract investments to priority areas both at home and overseas.
