Grandsun Advanced Electronics (Philippines) Co. Inc. plans to hire about 5,000 workers as it expands production and begins making a new product at its LIMA Estate facility in Batangas, Trade Secretary Cristina Roque said.
Roque disclosed the expansion after meeting with electronics and manufacturing companies in Guangzhou, China, on Sept. 3, as the government sought to attract new investments and encourage existing manufacturers to expand in the Philippines.
“They’ll be employing again, like, 5,000 people,” Roque said of Grandsun, adding that the expansion has already begun at the LIMA Estate economic zone.
The company is targeting up to a 50 percent increase in Philippine production, reflecting continued demand for the country as a manufacturing base.
Grandsun operates with an entirely Filipino workforce and exports its products to the United States, South America, Japan, Europe, and Asia-Pacific markets.
Roque said the company’s experience under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has encouraged it to deepen its presence in the Philippines.
“They have opportunities in other ASEAN countries, but they want [to expand] in the Philippines,” Roque said, citing PEZA’s support in addressing operational and regulatory requirements.
The expansion comes as the Philippines seeks to retain existing investors while attracting higher-value manufacturing projects that can generate jobs and strengthen local supply chains.
Roque also said another electronics company is pursuing a significant expansion in the country, although she declined to identify the firm because discussions remain confidential.
The latest projects underscore the competition among ASEAN economies for electronics and manufacturing investments, with companies weighing production costs, market access, incentives, and the ease of doing business.
For the Philippines, Grandsun’s planned hiring and higher production could further strengthen Batangas as a manufacturing hub while adding thousands of jobs to the country’s electronics export industry.
