The Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) and the University of the Philippines Alumni Engineers, Inc. (UPAE) have partnered to launch a financing program that will help qualified UP engineering students finish their degrees with greater financial ease. This is BPI’s first student financing partnership with a university alumni organization, under the UPAE Study Now, Pay Later Program.
Supported by the Student Loan Guarantee Fund entrusted to UPAE, the program offers up to ₱500,000 per student to cover school and essential expenses. Initially, it will assist up to six eligible students each semester. UPAE handles screening and endorsement, while BPI provides the loan facility and manages payments.
First established in 2016 by former UPAE President Lilit Tumbocon, the program has long relied on support from alumni and donors. “Helping a student earn a UP engineering degree is one of the most meaningful ways of giving back,” said UPAE President Victor Emmanuel Ahorro.
Qualified students get a deferred period of up to 48 months before repayment starts, followed by 12 to 60 months to pay. Funds are released monthly through a BPI account. The program is open to second-year and higher engineering students at UP Diliman.
For BPI, the initiative reinforces its commitment to building financial solutions that serve Filipinos at every stage. “This partnership helps build a better Philippines, one student at a time,” said Alma Aldip, BPI Head of Unsecured Lending and Cards – Product and Sales. “Supporting their education creates opportunities not just for them, but for their families and the communities they will serve.”
Interested students may coordinate directly with UPAE for application details.
