Subic EnerZone, SBMA secure  25-year power distribution extension

Subic EnerZone Corporation, a power distribution utility of Aboitiz Power Corporation, has officially renewed its partnership with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority to continue managing and operating the Subic Bay Freeport Zone’s electrical distribution system for another 25 years. The agreement ensures long-term operational continuity for the utility, which has served the special economic zone since October 2003 and is 99.98 percent owned by AboitizPower directly and indirectly through Davao Light.

The extension underscores significant corporate stability and strategic alignment between AboitizPower and the local authority. By solidifying its role as the primary energy distributor in a key industrial hub, AboitizPower positions itself to support the long-term master development plans of the Freeport and its expanding role as the Global Gateway of the Luzon Economic Corridor. The deal also highlights the operator’s track record of efficiency, noted by a total system loss of 4.37 percent at the end of 2025, which remains below the government-mandated cap of 5.50 percent for private distribution utilities.

For consumers and local locators, the agreement guarantees a stable, modern, and resilient power infrastructure designed to accommodate growing demand. Serving over 3,750 industrial, commercial, and residential customers, as well as retail electricity supply accounts and streetlights across Zambales and Bataan, Subic EnerZone is implementing capacity forecasts and grid reliability upgrades. These system enhancements aim to maintain investor confidence, protect daily commercial operations, and support community growth through consistent and sustainable electricity delivery.
