PCCI lauds BIR tax relief program

The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) has commended BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin R. Mendoza and the bureau for the One-Time Abatement Program, calling it a practical way for micro businesses to settle old tax debts and close pending cases. As of October 24, 2026, 3,929 micro taxpayers have benefited, with P266.79 million in taxes and penalties waived. Of 17,101 applications received, 15,050 have been approved — clear proof the program is delivering real help.

For many small operators, unresolved tax cases mean extra costs and constant worry on top of daily business struggles. This program lets them clear their obligations and start fresh. PCCI also strongly backs plans to expand the scheme to small businesses earning between P3 million and less than P20 million yearly, so more can free themselves from long-standing tax burdens.

The chamber will help spread program information through its members and local networks to ensure eligible businesses know how and when to apply. PCCI also highlighted how vital MSMEs are to the economy, noting that clear guidance and fair processes — such as proper use of audit authority documents — make it easier for small firms to comply confidently. It stands ready to work with the BIR toward simpler, fairer tax administration that matches what small businesses can realistically manage.
