The SM Mall of Asia complex in Pasay City has cemented its reputation as one of the country’s premier running destinations, hosting 39 marathons and fun runs that drew more than 425,000 participants over the past nine months alone. The venue has built a reputation for offering something for everyone, from seasoned athletes to families and first-time runners, blending athletic activity with wellness, entertainment, and meaningful causes.
The event calendar spanned a wide range of formats: competitive long-distance races, wellness-focused gatherings, night runs, advocacy-driven gatherings, and family-friendly races featuring beloved characters and entertainment brands. Serious athletes tested their endurance at events like the historic Galaxy Manila Marathon and the Santé Barley Trilogy Run Asia, with courses covering 21-kilometer, 32-kilometer, and full 42-kilometer distances. Meanwhile, the HOKA Midnight Run offered a fresh twist on the sport, inviting participants to hit the roads under evening skies. For those new to running or seeking a lighter experience, shorter events including the DailyFix Power Run, Home Credit Takbo Para sa Life, and Watsons x Unilab Share the Alaga Run lowered the barrier to entry, making physical activity accessible to beginners, friends, and entire families.
Beyond fitness and fun, the MOA complex has grown into a platform for purpose-driven activity, with events raising awareness and support for causes such as charity, national pride, environmental sustainability, mental health, and greater inclusion and diversity. Jeffrey C. Lim, president of SM Prime Holdings Inc., emphasized that creating an inclusive space lies at the heart of the venue’s appeal. “We work closely with brands and race organizers to create opportunities for people of different ages, interests and fitness levels to participate,” Lim explained. He added that the priority extends beyond the race itself: “Just as important is providing runners with a safe and enjoyable environment before, during and after the event, whether they are here to compete, spend time with family and friends, or simply enjoy being active.”
The experience does not end at the finish line. Participants can turn their visit into a full day out, enjoying post-run meals at the complex’s wide selection of restaurants and cafés, browsing IKEA, exploring the Museo del Galeón, catching a movie, or visiting the Wellness Zone and salons for restorative care. This full-venue approach underscores the complex’s role not just as a race venue, but as a community hub that integrates health and wellness seamlessly with lifestyle and commerce.
