AdventEnergy, the retail electricity supply arm of Aboitiz Power Corporation, has welcomed a fresh wave of mid-sized businesses into the Retail Competition and Open Access program, following the Energy Regulatory Commission’s move to lower the eligibility threshold to 100 kilowatts last June 26, 2026.
For over a decade, retail energy choice was available only to much larger users, starting at one megawatt when the program launched in 2013, then later reduced to 500 kilowatts. The latest expansion now opens the market to an estimated additional 12,000 end-users nationwide, with more than 2,300 customers already having switched suppliers before the new 100-kilowatt rule took effect. The ERC’s roadmap lays out a gradual, phased rollout leading to full retail competition by 2031.
At a recent ceremonial signing and thanksgiving event, AdventEnergy introduced new partners spanning printing, real estate, packaging, retail, and hospitality sectors across the country. Among them are Arriesgado College Foundation Inc., which will receive 301 kilowatts across its five facilities, and Belagua Corporation, operator of Fully Booked, whose flagship Bonifacio Global City branch will be supplied with 261 kilowatts. Breadwinners Foods Corporation, the company behind bakery brand Cocopan, is the latest addition in the new 100-kilowatt segment.
“Power is the one chapter we never want anyone to notice, and choosing our own partner allows us to write this journey ourselves ensuring a better experience for our patrons,” said Javier Daez of Belagua Corporation. For Arriesgado College, the shift means more resources for its core mission. “A peso saved on power is a peso that goes back to a student,” shared school president Vincent Arriesgado.
“Choosing a retail electricity supplier for the first time is not a small decision,” noted Catherine Del Villar-Pasilaban, AdventEnergy Vice President for Retail Energy Sales and Services. “It means asking new questions, looking at your operations in a new way, and trusting a new partner with something your business cannot run without.”
AdventEnergy now powers over 1,000 facilities across the country. The Aboitiz Group holds a 26% share of the competitive retail electricity market as of July 2026, serving users from large industrial sites to the fast-growing 100 to 499 kilowatt segment.
