Pepero Day brings Korean treats, games to Taguig

Chocolate-dipped biscuit sticks, DIY dessert stations, Korean-inspired games, and an unlimited snack buffet are on the menu as Novel Hotel Manila and Korean dessert shop Mento Taguig bring South Korea’s Pepero Day tradition to Manila on November 11.

The Pepero Day Atelier opens at 2 p.m. at the hotel’s Seoul Function Room on the second floor of Ridgewood Towers Premier along C5 Road in Taguig City. Visitors can make and decorate their own Pepero sticks, join traditional and contemporary Korean-themed games, and sample an assortment of Korean-inspired snacks and desserts.

A P500 VIP pass includes reserved seating and access to Mento’s unlimited snacks and dessert buffet.

Those who cannot make it on opening day can still get in on the sweet affair. The organizers will extend the do-it-yourself atelier and dessert promotion from November 12 to 15.

The event draws inspiration from Pepero Day, an annual South Korean celebration held every November 11. Named after the country’s popular chocolate-coated biscuit sticks, the date was chosen because its four numeral ones resemble the slender treats.

Much like Valentine’s Day, the occasion has become an opportunity for friends, couples, and families to exchange Pepero sticks as gestures of affection and appreciation.

Its arrival in Manila also reflects how South Korea’s cultural influence in the Philippines has expanded beyond K-pop and television dramas into food, lifestyle, and everyday celebrations.

For Filipinos curious about Korean customs, the atelier offers a chance to experience the tradition firsthand, with a little chocolate, creativity, and playfulness thrown in, without having to book a flight to Seoul.
