West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. has partnered with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources–Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and the city government of Imus to intensify and harmonize projects and activities related to the protection, rehabilitation and management of rivers.
Maynilad said the partnership is under the Bigkis-Tubig program that focuses on the protection of rivers as water sources for drinking.
Under the agreement, Maynilad partners with DENR-EMB and the local government of Imus in pursuing activities that protect the Julian and Imus River.
At present, Maynilad taps the Julian and Imus River as raw water source for its modular treatment plants built to produce potable water supply for residents of Imus.
Once fully operational, both will serve the water requirements of some 132,000 customers in the area.
The activities expected under the partnership include the conduct of periodic community waterway clean-ups and mangrove planting, provision of cleaning materials for river rangers, implementation of community development projects including desludging campaigns, dredging activities, community trainings as well as the conduct of information and education drives, among others.
Maynilad also donated two trash boats, eight life buoys and life vests, ten packs of emergency kits for river rangers and river clean-up materials to the Imus local government unit.
Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base serving the cities of Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon as well as the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.
