Gogoro Philippines, the local unit of the Taiwan-based mobility company distinguished by its battery-swapping electric scooters, said its units are exempt from the recent Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA mandate banning a broad range of e-vehicles from the streets of Metro Manila.
The ban is contained under MMDA Regulation No. 24-022 series of 2024 prohibiting e-bikes, e-trikes, tricycles, pedicabs, pushcarts, and kuligligs from using the national, circumferential, and radial roads within Metro Manila.
“Gogoro Philippines would like to clarify that the Gogoro SuperSport, Gogoro Delight, and Gogoro S2 Premium are Category L3 e-motorcycles, which are two-wheeled vehicles capable of running more than 50km/hr,” the company said.
Consistent with Land Transportation Office Administrative Order No. 2021-0039, these vehicles are subject to LTO registration and require a driver’s license to operate, it added.
According to the company, its electric two-wheel vehicles are also allowed on all types of roads such as national roads, circumferential roads, and radial roads except in limited access highways like expressways.
“Together with the MMDA and our other national agency partners, we will continue to promote road safety and compliance with road rules and regulations,” it said.
Gogoro Philippines is a joint venture between Globe’s 917Ventures Inc., Ayala Corporation, and Gogoro. The company aims to revolutionize the local transport landscape with the delivery of a clean and sustainable mobility system using Gogoro’s trailblazing electric two-wheel vehicles and open battery swap network.
