State-run firm Philippine National Oil Co. (PNOC) has partnered with Windstream Energy Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. in pursuit of a hybrid renewable energy system involving wind and solar power.
The partners look to deploy solar mill technology across small island communities in the Philippines.
The PNOC said the initiative aligns with the transition towards the social enterprise model and supporting the electrification goals of the national government.
It said the collaboration also supports the National Power Corp.’s (NPC) hybridization program for Small Power Utility Group (SPUG) areas to enhance energy access and sustainability in off-grid communities by blending diesel-powered generation with solar and wind power.
Last week, the NPC began finalizing the customized bidding documents under an accelerated hybridization program (AHP) designed to fast-track the establishment of renewable energy sources in off-grid areas.
The AHP will allow the private sector to put up RE generation facilities augmenting or replacing 278 SPUG diesel power plants in off-grid areas.
SolarMill, developed by Windstream Energy, is a modular and scalable clean energy solution that integrates solar panels and vertical-axis wind turbines with magnet generators that can be installed in diverse locations, including remote and rough terrain due to its compact size.
Windstream, headquartered in India, has a global presence with clients in 38 countries.
